Ethernet + Fiber: County of Broward Tests Cablesys’ Pre-terminated Patch Panel System
Published by Cablesys on Nov 5th 2018
The County of Broward, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is currently testing Cablesys’ Pre-terminated Patch Panel System as a potential future upgrade to their network.
They chose two types of patch panels; Category 6A (CAT6A) and fiber optic.
Due to the environment, the county chose foil screen twisted pair (FTP) cables and connectivity. FTP cable and connectivity helps protect signal transmission and prevents degradation from external threats, such as electrical interference. A sheath of aluminum foil is manufactured into the cable. The connectors on each end of the cable are made of zinc-alloy. The entire cable assembly is shielded 360 degrees.
To work with existing fiber optic equipment, the county chose the bezel-to-patch cord model. One end of the cable assembly is built with LC duplex fiber optic connectivity which can snap into the bracket panel. The other end of the cable assembly was terminated with SC duplex patch cords which will be used to interconnect with the equipment.
