Ethernet+Fiber: City Government Installs Pre-terminated Patch Panels
Published by Cablesys on Mar 31st 2021
Cerritos, California – IT staff working for the city deployed 72 drops using Cablesys’ Pre-terminated Patch Panel System. They wanted to connect Category 5e and fiber optic patch panels to their network equipment and support Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet bandwidth, respectively. Cablesys helped by pre-building the patch panels.
The patch panels consisted of four cable assemblies and two bracket panels. Two assemblies had fifty-feet CAT 5e riser-rated cables terminated with six CAT 5e data ports on each end. The other two assemblies had fifty-feet OM3 plenum-rated cables terminated to twelve LC fiber ports on each end. Every assembly was bundled and labeled to facilitate routing and identify ports. All materials were packaged together with front cable management panels.
The system was tested to TIA® performance standards before shipping. Once the city received the materials, their IT staff screwed the bracket and cable management panels onto a rack, routed the cables, and snapped in the connectivity. With the bracket panels being modular, the cable assemblies were able to snap into the bracket without any tools.
